What the checker looks at

Title and description
og:title and og:description, the headline and line under it on every card. Without them apps fall back to the page title or nothing.
Share image
Whether og:image loads and is large enough. 1200 × 630 pixels works everywhere.
Card type
twitter:card decides whether X shows a large image or a small square.
Address and site name
og:url and og:site_name, so shares of the same page count together and carry your name.

After the check

Set an image for every page
A link without an image gets far less attention in a feed. Use one per page, not only one for the whole site.
Keep the image at 1.91 to 1
1200 × 630 pixels is cropped well by Facebook, X and LinkedIn. Keep text away from the edges.
Clear the old preview
Apps cache cards. After a change, use Facebook's Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn's Post Inspector to fetch the page again.
Use full addresses
og:image and og:url must start with https://. A relative path breaks the card in most apps.

Yes. X reads its own twitter: tags first and falls back to Open Graph for the title, description and image. Set twitter:card to choose the large or small card.

1200 × 630 pixels, under 5 MB, as JPG, PNG or WebP. Smaller than 600 × 315 shows as a small thumbnail or not at all.

Facebook keeps the card it saw first. Paste the address into the Sharing Debugger and choose Scrape Again.

Not directly; Google does not rank on them. They make shared links more clickable, which brings visitors and links.
