XML sitemap checker.Make sure Google gets the full list.
Enter your site or the address of a sitemap. We find it, read every entry, check the format and the dates, and open a sample of the listed pages to see if they still work.
What the checker looks at
- Finding it
- The Sitemap lines in robots.txt first, then the standard addresses most site builders use.
- Format
- Whether the file is a real XML sitemap or sitemap index, and whether it stays within Google's 50,000 addresses per file.
- Addresses
- Full https addresses on your own domain, without duplicates.
- Dates
- lastmod on every page, in the right format and not in the future.
- Live pages
- A sample of listed pages, each opened once, to catch deleted pages and redirects.
After the check
- Fix the red dots
- A sitemap that does not open, or lists pages on another domain, gives search engines nothing to work with.
- List it in robots.txt
- One “Sitemap:” line lets every search engine and AI crawler find it.
- Submit it to Google and Bing
- Add the address in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, then watch how many pages they index.
- Keep it clean
- List only pages you want found and that open with 200: no redirects, no deleted pages, no noindex pages.

A file that lists the pages on your site, usually at yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml. Search engines use it to find pages, especially new ones that few links point to yet.
Check robots.txt for a Sitemap line. Otherwise try /sitemap.xml or /sitemap_index.xml; WordPress uses /wp-sitemap.xml unless an SEO plugin replaces it. This checker tries all of these for you.
Up to 50,000 addresses or 50 MB uncompressed per file. Larger sites split them and list the files in a sitemap index.
Google ignores both. It does use lastmod, but only when the dates on a site prove accurate.
It helps Google find them; it does not guarantee they are indexed. Pages still need to be useful, open with 200 and be allowed in robots.txt.
Only the pages you want in search: the final https address of each, never redirects, error pages or pages marked noindex.
